{Monday, April 16, 2007 . Its happening all over again}

Just read about the shooting in Virginia Tech, USA, where 'at least 33 people' were killed by an as yet unidentified gunman. Apparently the largest and deadliest school attack so far, the episode brought to mind the Columbine High School shootings way back in 1999.

Being in Form 5 then, I remember feeling very moved by the incident. I recall reading the article in the TIMES magazine about the event, pausing especially at the chronology of events, imagining what it must have been like in the library when the two boys walked around with guns, knowing that at any moment you could die.

Still recall the many rumours from the event, from the girls who were said to have been shot for believing in God, to the guy who threw himself over his friends to protect them from being shot, to those who played dead in order to avoid being shot.

In the days that followed Columbine, and every single school shooting, and indeed every single similar disaster since then, up to the gang attacks in London, the question has always been about whos to blame.

Computer games, poor law enforcement, school authorities misinterpreting the signs, friends and family who influenced them through various ways, all took their turns on center stage to take the rap.

Marilyn Manson, when asked what he would have said to the two boys from Columbine, said, 'I would have listened to them, something no one else seemed to be doing.'

Why this post? I think it highlights the challenge we face as Christians. Called to love our brothers and forgive our enemies, while trusting that 'everything works for the good of those who love Him', our faith will be put to the test. Maybe not by being asked to stand in the fire like Daniel's friends, or to sacrifice our children like Abraham, but by facing up to the violence and fear in todays' society and when it happens to each of us individually.

{Saturday, November 25, 2006 . Congrats!}

Props, kudos, all the rest of it as well. Nope not to me for actually POSTING something here after all this time, but to

Mathew and Sharon!

On the birth of their baby daughter, whose name I didn't really get, but sounded really pretty when Shaun told me over the phone. I think got the word Ashley and Jemima in there somewhere right?

Anyway, despite the long labour and many worrying hours over the past 9 months, God has shown His faithfulness again. And is it any coincidence that the verse that hit me today was Psalm 31:19

"How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you."

{Saturday, April 22, 2006 . Slow Dance}

Something to share in this exam time... Not to encourage you not to study though, but just a simple reminder that studying is ULTIMATELY still not everything... =)

Slow Dance
-Author Unknown

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

Do you run through each day on the fly
When you ask "How are you?"
do you hear the reply?

When the day is done,
do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores running through your head?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow
And in your haste,
not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
'Cause you never had time to call and say "Hi"?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day

It is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away...
Life is not a race.

Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.
